CD: Regina Coeli
The works on this CD have been selected to showcase some compositions which have not been aired for perhaps 100 years. By a motu priprio of 1904, Pope Pius X sought to restore Plainchant to its central position which it had enjoyed in the medieval church period. Compositions which were considered more suitable to the concert hall were discouraged, and the Society of St Gregory of America published a "Black List" of compositions and arrangements which were considered "clearly antagonistic" to this motu proprio. This CD explores some of these compositions which are complemented by newer works.
