Inexplicable Splendour
"...the walls of Magnus Martyr hold / inexplicable splendour of Ionian white and gold" - TS Eliot
As with our first CD, Regina Coeli, much of the material on this CD is drawn from that which was outlawed by Pope Pius X in his Motu Proprio of 1903, an attempt to return Catholic church music to Gregorian chant. We feel that the music Pope Pius X banned has a vibrancy and joyfulness that truly glorifies God and thus it regularly contributes to worship at St Magnus.
The choir on this CD comprises:
William Petter (director, tenor)
Lottie Greenhow (soprano)
Marie Degodet (mezzo-soprano)
George Dye (bass)
Paul Ayres (organ)
Rebecca Lea (soprano) - tracks 1, 2, 8, 11, 18, 20
David Gwesyn Smith (baritone) - tracks 2 and 8
Sam Lea (baritone) - track 2
Recording Engineer: Sam Lea
