The professional choir of St Magnus-the-Martyr was established in its present form in April 2005 and is usually a quartet, although it is augmented on some occasions. The choir sings Mass every Sunday at 11am, with extra services at Christmas and Easter, and further services as required. The choir comprises four professional singers and an organist, John Eady, and is directed by Lottie Greenhow.
In the choir's short history it has recorded two CDs, Regina Coeli and Inexplicable Splendour, and has performed at several churches across London and as far afield as Paris. Works sung in liturgical contexts include Rossini Stabat Mater and Petite Messe Solenelle, Faure Requiem, Durufle Requiem, Giorza Vespers and Stearns Vespers. The choir is a regular participant in the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music and regularly premieres new works by composers such as William Petter, John Eady and David Pearson.
The choir has a particular reputation for performing works that appeared on the "black list" written by Pope Pius X in 1904 and has adapted several pieces of Romantic operatic repertoire for use in a liturgical context.
The choir is available for weddings, civil partnership blessings, funerals, baptisms and other special services in the church and is also available to travel to external engagements, performing a wide range of repertoire, from Renaissance polyphony to Romantic choral music to close harmony and lighter repertoire.
